Dvořák wrote his most beloved quartet while longing for a homeland he'd left behind. There's no better place to hear it than inside one.

About the event
The Yukon Czech Hall has been a place where European immigrants and their families could come together and celebrate a world they created in Oklahoma but fashioned after the world they left behind. On July 25th, the HIP Quartet brings that history into the room with a program that couldn't be more at home here.
Bedřich Smetana wrote from Bohemia, reaching toward a national identity under threat. Antonín Dvořák wrote his "American" Quartet on foreign soil, saturated with longing for the country he'd left behind. Together, they form one of chamber music's most quietly devastating conversations — across an ocean, across time, and now across the walls of one of Oklahoma's most storied Czech landmarks.
The evening begins at 2:30 PM with a pre-concert talk, offering context for the music and the historically informed approach the HIP Quartet brings to every performance. The concert follows at 3:30 PM.
